Kevin and Sara Bachtel were married in
December of 2000, and would have their first baby girl in October of
2001. After the birth of their daughter Madlyn, they decided to try for another child.
Unfortunately when baby Macy was born, she was not breathing or moving at
birth. She was placed on a ventilator and lived for only 10 days. After 3
years and genetic testing, Kevin and Sara were given permission to try
again. After diligent prayer, Sara soon became pregnant and was monitored
closely, being assured that she was going give birth to a healthy baby boy.
On January 26, 2007, Marcus S. Bachtel was born. Immediately the Bachtel's were reliving Macy’s tragedy. Marcus was not
breathing or moving and had to be placed on a ventilator. Marcus underwent
extensive testing, and to date, he still has a trach,
is still ventilated, is tube fed, able to move his head a little, and has some
control of his body movements. Each day continues to be a challenge for
this family. To date, there is still not a diagnosis for his
condition and he and his family continue to remain positive and stay strong
as Marcus continues to undergo testing.
